The University of Arizona Biosphere 2 is seeking a postdoctoral scientist. The successful candidate is expected to work in close collaboration within an interdisciplinary team of Earth scientists and will focus on research activities related to controlled experimentation using the Landscape Evolution Observatory (LEO). Experiments include but are not limited to: characterization of hydrologic response of landscapes using tracers (stable water isotopes), determination of water transit time distribution, hillslope-scale water balance estimation, and the characterization of subsurface flow paths during extreme runoff events. Outstanding UA benefits include health, dental, vision, and life insurance; paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays; UA/ASU/NAU tuition reduction for the employee and qualified family members; access to UA recreation and cultural activities; and more!
Duties and Responsibilities

- Conduct rainfall-runoff experiments using LEO in accordance with the science plan and in close collaboration with the project supervisors. *Analyze soil moisture, soil water potential, and soil temperature data in relation to these rainfall-runoff experiments. *Conduct tracer experiments using 18O or D isotopes including sampling soil suction lysimeters and outlet waters for isotope analysis. *Organize sample preparation and handling and oversee sample analysis on campus. *Apply existing modeling platforms, such as CATHY or HYDRUS, to analyze flow and transport phenomena in the LEO hillslopes, including transit time modeling.
Not applicable for this position.
Additional Minimum Qualifications
- PhD at the time appointment commences. * PhD in hydrology and/or biogeochemistry or a closely related field. * Experience with hydrologic field measurements, stable water isotopes and numerical modeling is required.
