Major/Essential Duties of Job
Generation of Plant transformation constructs, plant transformations including cotton, biochemical analyses including terpenoids, physiological, molecular and genetic analyses of transgenic plants, disease-resistance analyses, Recombinant DNA manipulations (may require use of radioactive methods), training of other personnel in these techniques, and testing of transgenic plants under field conditions. Preparing media, autoclaving, greenhouse and field work (may require heavy lifting), ordering supplies and cleaning glassware. Preparing reports, writing and publishing papers in scientific journals. Disposing of biohazardous material, chemicals, and transgenic material. Ensuring safe and efficient working conditions exist and safety procedures are followed. Operating a motor vehicle.
Other job related duties as required.
PhD in plant biotechnology, plant molecular biology, plant physiology, plant pathology, biochemistry, genetics or related field.
Extensive experience in plant pathogen interactions, biochemical and molecular analyses, and gene cloning/manipulation is preferred.
Creation and analysis of transgenic crop plants and/or sterile techniques and/or molecular biology and/or biochemical analyses. Experience in disease resistant assays.
Postdoctoral training preferred.

Required special knowledge, abilities, and skills:
Familiarity with appropriate laboratory and/or technical equipment. Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to create databases, perform statistical analyses, present data and perform other computer related tasks as directed by supervisor.
