Position Summary

The department of Steward Observatory invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position to work on the analyses of observations of high-redshift quasars and galaxies using data from HST, Hershel and ALMA. Responsibilities will include: (1) carry out observations and data analysis of host galaxies of the most distant quasars using the Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) and the Hershel Space Telescope, to study the star formation process in quasar host galaxies and the co-evolution of supermassive black holes and galaxies in the early universe. (2) Carry out observations and data analysis of the environment of the most distant quasars using the Hubble Space Telescope, to study galaxy formation activities in the quasar environment in the early universe. (3) Develop software and provide data analysis support to observations using the Jansky Very Large Array Telescope and ALMA, to study gas dynamics and star formation in distant Lyman Break galaxies. The work will be supervised by Professor Xiaohui Fan. For full consideration, application should be received by 01/31/2013.
