Minimum qualifications are a Ph.D. in Physics or closely related field from a regionally accredited university; research experience in theoretical high energy physics and cosmology; and demonstrated potential to teach to a diverse group of students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Desired qualifications are postdoctoral research experience in these fields, ideally complementing the current strengths of the department; college-level teaching experience in physics beyond conventional TA duties; ability to teach core and elective physics courses; ability to work well in a collaborative environment, including ability in written communication; and an ability to enthusiastically attract students to the field of physics including those students who traditionally have been underrepresented in the STEM fields.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute fully to the teaching, and service responsibilities of the Physics Department. S/he will also conduct research in theoretical physics and cosmology.
The Physics Department offers B.S. degrees in Physics and Applied Physics, and an M.S. in Physics. The campus is located in northeastern Minnesota at the tip of Lake Superior, approximately 165 miles north of Minneapolis and 90 miles south of the Soudan Underground Laboratory, and is home to the Large Lakes Observatory.
