Primary Responsibilities: Provide technical and practical expertise to support the characterization, construction, test and evaluation of electrochemical power sources. Types of power sources include various configurations (e.g., proton exchange and solid oxide fuel cells, batteries and super capacitors), and chemistries appropriate for a wide range of Navy applications. Plan/conduct/lead analyses of electrolytes and electrochemical materials used in batteries and super capacitors for Navy and Marine Corps applications. Investigate and determine the physical and chemical properties of electrochemical materials. Provide technical and practical expertise for the testing and evaluation of electrochemical power sources with emphasis on the engineering-level aspects of tests and characterization. This includes data reduction, reporting and presenting. Tasking may include supporting the design, development, testing and analysis of alternative energy systems including, but not limited to, fuel cell, energy harvesting, wind-based, solar-based and water-based technologies. This support may also include web-based market research and literature surveys relevant to alternative energy technologies Ability to identify new opportunities, and propose and present (written and verbal) new project ideas for funding consideration is a big plus. The opportunity for mentoring exists for candidates that show the drive to lead scientific development in this technical area.
• Masters of Science Degree in Engineering related to electrochemical power sources
• Two to five years of experience with electrochemical power sources development and testing.
• Candidate shall demonstrate the understanding of power sources, testing process, data reduction, reporting and presenting.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and testing software.
• The Power Engineer shall demonstrate an understanding of fundamental principles of electrochemistry power sources, analytical and/or synthetic techniques and tools.
Clearance: U.S. Citizenship. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret-level clearance.
