Under the direction of the Assistant Director for Environmental & Hazardous Materials Management Services, the person holding this position will coordinate and perform various environmental, health, and safety functions critical to the operation of the University of Massachusetts Amherst Power Plant. He/She will be responsible for providing technical support for, and coordination of, overall power plant environmental compliance, including Federal and State Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Emergency Planning, Community Right to Know Act, and health and safety compliance, as well as implement UMA policies and procedures. This person will maintain effective relationships with other departmental employees, plant management and employees, community representatives and regulators. He/She will also lead or assist with campus environmental health and safety functions as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, or related field At least five years of power industry or directly related industrial experience Knowledge of major environmental legislation involving Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, hazardous material and waste management Advanced working knowledge of relevant regulations such as OSHA, DOT and NEPA Excellent communication skills including oral presentations and technical writing abilities Ability to analyze problems, make sound judgments and provide prudent recommendations to all levels of UMA Knowledge of environmental permitting process and experience with required reporting requirements Knowledge of applicable environmental statutes and regulations and familiarity with the principles associated with maintaining strong environmental programs Clear understanding of power and fuel site operations, including the interrelationship of power operation and environmental and safety compliance Strong oral and written skills Prefer CHMM, CEP, or other nationally recognized environmental certification Some night and weekend hours required

Hiring Salary Range: $48,800 - $67,400

Normal Starting Salary Range: $48,800 - $55,000
