The Savory Cook works on the savory line of the CIA Bakery Café in the production of savory menu items. This position works under the Savory Supervisor in Training to prepare and deliver a variety of sandwiches, salads, soups and other savory items. The position is full-time (approximately 36 hours/ week) and primary hours will be scheduled for weekends. The Savory Cook is a representative of the Culinary Institute of America and is expected to uphold the policies of the Institute.

• Ensure that the savory line is maintained throughout the day (stocked, clean, organized, etc)
• Prep mise en place for soups, sandwiches, salads and other café items
• Operate and maintain standards on the savory line with and in absence of Savory Supervisor in Training
• Ensure that all orders for the day are accounted for and dispatched by the FOH
• Ensure the freshness and quality of the product by tasting everything every day
• Ensure that the Café Manager’s and standards are met, regarding quality, execution, organization, cleanliness (of all areas of savory production sections) and precision in conjunction with the Café Manager.
• Make sure when the production day is over, that the line is properly cleaned, low-boys, reach-ins and walk-in is organized, and all storage areas are clean, as well as equipment and work areas
• Under the direction of the Savory Supervisor in Training, assist in maintaining inventories of raw ingredients, sanitation supplies ad production by passing par information on to the Savory Supervisor in Training
• Ensure that equipment and machinery is properly used and maintained
• Other duties as assigned


• High school diploma or equivalent
• HACCP or ServSafe Certified, or Texas Food Handler’s Certificate

• 1-year restaurant/culinary school experience producing food from whole ingredients

• Culinary Arts Education or Training Program

WORKING CONDITIONS (physical capabilities)
• Ability to frequently lift and carry 30 lbs
• Ability to occasionally lift and carry 50 lbs with assistance
• Ability to withstand high ambient temperatures while working in close proximity of cooking equipment
• Ability to stand and work for extended periods of time (more than 8 hours) during customary food preparation hours.
