Established as a 501(c)3 in 1942, Atlanta Humane Society (AHS) is the oldest, private, non-religious charitable organization in Atlanta. AHS is committed to humane treatment of all animals and finding homes for all adoptable pets, placing approximately 8,000 animals each year. They do not euthanize adoptable animals, and there are no time limits for the animals once they are in the care of AHS. AHS operates two shelters and a full service charitable veterinary clinic. One shelter is in downtown Atlanta, the original location of AHS; the other, which opened in December 2011, is in Alpharetta, an Atlanta suburb.

The new President will have the opportunity to lead the Board and staff through a comprehensive strategic planning process that will address the development and implementation of new programs and services as well as a communications and re-branding plan.

Reporting to the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors, the President will provide vision, leadership and direction for the organization and will be responsible for overall management, organizational development, fundraising, marketing, and programming of AHS. We are seeking a highly experienced leader and manager who has a passion and vision for the humane and ethical treatment of animals, but prior professional experience in animal welfare is not a requirement. The qualified candidate will be an exceptional communicator, who has the ability, externally, to build visibility for an organization, and internally, to develop and implement a clear vision, articulate specific goals and hold all accountable for high standards of performance across the entire organization. Experience leading strategic decision-making processes and financial modeling programs is needed.

A minimum of an undergraduate degree is required. Professional education in such areas as business management, marketing, non-profit or association management, fundraising and administration is a plus.
