With the pending retirement of its admired president, Ralph Wolff, WASC's Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities has launched a search for an outstanding individual to succeed him in the presidency.

The WASC senior-college commission is now separately incorporated with its own governing board. It has developed a reputation as a forward-looking regional accreditor noted for its emphases on quality assurance, innovative approaches to institutional review, and public transparency and accountability. (It is the only accreditor to post visiting team reports and action letters on its website). Its region encompasses California, Hawaii, and the Pacific Basin and includes major public universities, admired private colleges, for-profit enterprises, and (soon) transnational universities.

The Commission has developed a "Prospectus" with information on WASC operations, its challenges and opportunities, the President's distinctive role, and participation in this search process. In brief, it seeks a chief executive who will be a leader in national and regional debates about the future of accreditation and who will energetically support WASC's commitments to "reinvention." The next president is expected to oversee the work of a 22-person professional staff, and through presence, probity, and will, represent that work before multiple constituencies. A senior-level, 10-person search committee will begin review of applications April 30th, a review designed to culminate June 19-21 before the entire Commission. The new President's start date is negotiable. To apply, candidates should review in full the Prospectus and follow the instructions on its final page.

WASC has engaged AGB Search of Washington, DC to assist in this search. For inquiries, nominations, or further information, contact in confidence:
