SUMMARY: The Press Operator I has overall accountability for all activities related to operating a multi-unit web offset press efficiently, safely and accurately. The Press Operator I is a leadership role responsible for directing the work of the press crew and providing coaching and training to crew members. The incumbent plays an essential role in helping Vertis Communications achieve client satisfaction and meet business goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include safe operation of assigned pressline, upkeep/repair of all press & auxiliary equipment, development of press crew members, following specific job run info, maintaining overall print quality and ensuring that procedures are followed.
REQUIREMENTS: Proficient in reading, writing, speaking and general knowledge of English to understand written directions. Perform basic math functions as related to press operations. Ability to troubleshoot and solve print related problems such as pressure, settings, tension, irregular ink distributions and web-breaks. Ability to work as a cooperative part of a crew and provide both technical and safety instructions/training to junior crew members. Enhanced listening skills and ability to follow directions from the Supervisor. Exhibit good interpersonal skills in issuing work instructions and communicating with crewmembers. Ability to demonstrate and share personal job knowledge with less experienced crewmembers Ability to recognize when both positive and negative reinforcement is warranted for safe/unsafe behavior. Ability to work overtime as required based upon production demands
Must be able to stand continually with frequent bending, squatting, climbing reaching and pulling. (Please refer to Environmental/safety analysis for specific physical requirements).
Must have a minimum of 2 years exp as a lead operator on a web offset press, Goss c700 or Harris n900 preferred.
