Printing Press Operator will handle the following duties, including, but are not limited to:
1 Operation of Man Rolland 4/2 Printing press, including all maintenance and troubleshooting of the press. Repair of press and peripheral equipment.
2 Assist manager in enforcing all safety aspects of printing.
3 Practice all facets of lithography, platemaking operation, and color proofing of ads and photos.
4 Maintain all quality standards necessary to produce a top quality newspaper on a daily basis.
5 Maintain industry standards for waste calculations and documentation & supply use documentation.
6 Physical requirements: All duties are divided as evenly as possible amongst the crew. The printing presses are stacked two high and have ladders for access to the upper units and the folder balloons. Operators and trainees climb the ladders many times each shift to adjust compensators, and to fill ink fountains from five gallon buckets of ink. Operators and trainees must be able to climb with the buckets, and to handle bundles of newspapers at the folder. They must also be able to physically handle the 55 gallon drums and all press parts needed for unit or folder repair.
Candidate must be mechanically inclined and must be able to work with minimal supervision.
2 - 5 years offset printing experience preferred.
