BRIEF SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Celgene is seeking an experienced industry scientist to join the Discovery Oncology group. The successful candidate will have a well-documented background of scientific expertise in molecular and cellular tumor biology and an abiding interest in drug discovery. The qualified candidate will be responsible for developing novel drug candidates by leading cancer drug discovery projects, participating in new target identification, designing and leading drug discovery strategies both internally and through our Alliance organization. Alliance activities will encompass scientific review, participating in due diligence activities and representing Celgene on selected joint research committees. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills demonstrated in a team environment are essential. The position will require roughly 40% laboratory benchwork and 60% management (office) work.

PREREQUISITES: Ph.D. in molecular or cellular biology or related scientific discipline with at least 8 years of demonstrated success in industry drug discovery. Work experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical experience is preferred.
This position requires an individual with a Ph.D. degree in molecular or cellular biology with at least 8 years experience. The ideal candidate will participate in research programs developing targeted cancer therapeutics. The qualified candidate will have solid molecular and cell biology skills and at least 3 years of productive experience at the postdoctoral level (as evidenced by an appropriate publication record) and at least 8 years of demonstrated success in industry drug discovery. Previous experience in the biopharmaceutical industry is required with a successful record of project impact and compound progression. Relevant technical skills include designing and performing cell-based assays, siRNA for target validation, cancer cell signaling analysis, ELISA, Western blotting, gene reporter systems, high content screening, and data analysis, biomarker with patient selection hypothesis discovery, and cell culture expertise. A broad understanding of molecular and cell biology concepts within the cancer biology field is essential. Expertise around strategies for target validation and biomarker development is key. Relevant leadership skills include exhibiting strong scientific/reasoning skills, demonstrated scientific flexibility and commitment to excellence; strong self-awareness and ability to learn new skills. The qualified candidate will be self-motivated and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability for creative thinking and problem solving. Experience with both small-molecule and biologics-based drugs is a plus.
