Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) is seeking a passionate, visionary leader who assumes personal responsibility for all students’ academic success and who develops teachers and partners with students’ families and communities to lead the Lake Harriet Community School Upper Campus.

Lake Harriet Community School (LHCS) ( http://lakeharriet.mpls.k12.mn.us/ ) provides kindergarten through 8th grade on two campuses in the Fulton and Linden Hills neighborhoods of SW Minneapolis. The Upper Campus offers a challenging curriculum for grades 4-8 in an inclusive environment. The principal is a senior leader in the MPS system responsible for setting an ambitious vision for student achievement and leading the school community to realize the vision. The principal strategically implements the school’s mission and effectively manages students, staff and resources to prepare every child to be ready for college, career, and life.

The principal is responsible for:
  • Leading instruction

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Leads the school’s instructional program to ensure that all students are college and career ready

  • Creates a sense of urgency to achieve goals and vision and takes immediate action to ensure early successes

Education, Training and Experience:

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in education or related field AND a minimum of three years of K-12 teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Successful experience as a principal, principal intern, assistant principal, or teacher leader, preferably in an urban school
  • Exceptional results with raising student achievement
  • Experience transforming a team or organizational unit
  • Multi-lingual
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Applicants must possess a valid principal’s license
  • A valid driver’s license may be required
