Xplor Solutions is seeking a Principal Engineer (Embedded Networks, Protocols and Security) for Alpharetta, GA.
This is a permanent position and candidates must be a US Citizen or Green Card Holder.
The Principal Engineer will focus on contributing internally and externally to the Evolution and upgrade of the HAN/NAN/WAN topologies and protocols for AMI communication solutions, with strength and focus on the architecture of the current and evolutionary networks and systems. Specifically they will work on Embedded Networks, Protocols and Security. They will:
Be an expert assisting the systems and the implementation teams, but also the marketing and sales teams; on matters of AMI network architecture, protocols and topologies.
Participate in the definition, implementation and analysis of Wired and Wireless communications, including backhauls and Enterprise Networking.
Fulfill a role of architect and expert as it relates to the security components of the companies AMI networks.
As necessary, they will participate, and represent the company, in the elaboration of new standards in the domain of networking and communication protocols as well as AMI cyber security.
Be in charge of Technology watch and expertise in the matters of AMI networks protocols and Security, and as necessary will participate in competitor and third party systems and solutions evaluation.
Have complete understanding of all the protocols used within companies to provide AMI communication solutions.
Investigate and keep track of all current standards and protocols that support AMI operations in the Smart Grid.
Contribute towards research in the evolution of company’s network architectures, Network Management and protocols.
Keep companies staff and relevant product groups informed on the progress of the various AMI initiatives on the networking, security and architecture at all levels of the AMI solution, in particular HAN/LAN/NAN/WAN.
Act as an engineering consultant and expert to companies Marketing, Sales and Engineering groups on AMI network architecture and protocol matters.
System level understanding of communication architectures, networks and protocols and security.
Capability to implement and assist with the implementation of an embedded protocol stack.
Capability to implement and assist with the implementation of Enterprise level IPv6 networks.
Capability to define and drive the implementation of AMI network architectures.
Able to work with minimal supervision and be a self-starter.
Master’s Degree in Engineering/science, EE, CS or CE Preferred
Have extensive knowledge in the field of Security Architectures, specifically as applied to embedded networks and protocols, Enterprise networks, Network Management, and have working knowledge in field of applications, IP networks and wireless technologies.
Serve as companies technical expert and representative on targeted standards related to Network architectures and Protocols, and relevant Security components, specifically the IEEE, the IETF, NIST/SGIP, and at the same time transmit to standards committees and working groups the contribution to standards and protocol specifications provided by companies staff.
At least 7 years’ experience developing and implementing embedded communication protocols in any arena.
At least 3 years’ experience designing and architecting communication solutions around protocols stacks that follow the OSI layered model.
Experience on the implementation of wireless communication protocols.
Experience in the design, implementation, testing and deployment of IPv4 and IPv6 components.
Experience in the analysis and definition of Security architecture for Embedded Networks.
Experience with standard and non-standard network management tools and products.
Experience with tools and methods used in the implementation of layered protocols.
Participation in standardization activities related to protocols is desired, for example IEEE, IETF.
Experience with communication protocols applied to the Utility industry, Smart Grid, SCADA, is valuable.
Experience with communication protocols applied to the AMI systems is also valuable.
Experience with Application layer protocols for the Smart Grid is valuable.
