Perform standard engineering assignments, which are typically a significant portion of a larger project. Select sound techniques to solve problems and make design recommendations under direction of supervisor. Assess results for application, validity and conformance to specifications. Recommend material and process specifications.
Utilize engineering tools to solve straightforward problems (e.g., FMEA, Finite Element Analysis, Process Modeling, Design of Experiments, Mold Flow).
Lead small project teams as needed to accomplish project objectives.
Monitor and report project costs to management. With supervisor, recommend capital expenditure and production methods for existing or enhanced products or processes.
Study and recommend techniques to improve existing products/processes.
Investigate new sources for raw materials or processes.
With supervisor, formulate and recommend engineering practices and technical work in accordance with project and business objectives.
With minimal guidance, schedules and leads a team through the planning and execution of a smaller project or defined piece of a larger project. This includes constructing detailed, accurate project schedules, interfacing with development groups and technical support groups.
Display a solid understanding of theories/practices utilized by other disciplines outside primary area of expertise.
Ability to convince management on courses of action with minimal assistance using both written and verbal methods.
Effectively operate in and may facilitate cross-functional teams with guidance.
Must be able to provide solutions that reflect understanding business objectives and cost implications.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
Must have training and/or experience and demonstrate proficiency in total quality management, statistical methods, problem analysis and resolution, materials science, design of experiments.
Proficient in relevant products or process development processes.
Successful track record of managing wide-ranging activities within the business unit. Demonstrates leadership skills.
Recognized as technically competent by peers and other personnel within the business unit.
Cross-functional team experience, including technical and non-technical work.
Ability to organize and present technical and project management overviews with minimal assistance.
Demonstrated success in delivering results on several technical challenges.
B.S. degree in Engineering (or other scientific discipline) and 5-8 years of experience, M.S. in Engineering and 3-5 years of experience or Ph.D. in Engineering and 1-3 years of experience.
Test specification development or utilizing experimental design / DOE’s in the medical device industry.
Verification/validation of manufacturing equipment and processes; including sterilization (steam, ETOH and gamma), cleaning and shipping.
Interventional products experience - Design control and design verification; design validation and design history files experience.
Experimental design; fundamentals of probability and/or statistical process control.
Product specification development; test method development; and risk management.
Prefer experience with Total Quality Management methods (e.g. “six sigma”).
