As a Principal Investigator, you will be leading a cross-functional research team of high-level scientific personnel and faculty to drive execution to project timelines and overall program goals from initial concept through successful conclusion. Influenza viruses and pandemic influenza are the main targets of the work. As part of Faculty at VGTI Florida you will: Develop practical approaches for vaccine construction and delivery into inductive sites in an effort to elicit host protection Study, evaluate and quantify the immune response to influenza vaccines in elderly persons with an end result of boosting the immune response and improve the efficacy of vaccines in elderly subjects Identify mechanisms that can lead to the development of better vaccines for emerging viral infections such as pandemic influenza Oversee programs and provide leadership and guidance to staff and graduate students Facilitate the establishment of translational research programs with external peer-reviewed funding; bridging basic, clinical and influenza control research among the multiple research programs with the goal of facilitating translational programs, multi-investigator grants and contracts Facilitate cross-functional working relationships with scientific team members, including faculty and high-level scientific personnel
PhD degree in microbiology, virology, or immunology Minimum of 5 years of post-graduate experience in combined project oversight, product development and scientific research in an academic setting High degree of technical expertise, creative insight and leadership, and the ability to communicate effectively and foster teamwork Past experience overseeing similarly sized projects is desired Experience presenting papers and leading meetings Experience working in BSL3 conditions Strong leadership skills (communicates and demonstrates vision and commitment) Builds successful collaborations with internal and external partners Ability to function well in a multiple-project, fast paced environment Demonstrates high level skills in project oversight and scientific discovery process High level of interpersonal skills as well as excellent communication and presentation skillsFunding Criteria Preferred: Current and Future grants portfolio (as listed in NIH Style BioSketch) At least 2 independent grants an equivalent funding of 500k - 1Million per year of direct costs (RO3, R21, RO1, PO1 grants) VGTI Florida is an EEO/AAP Institution committed to recruiting, hiring, and promoting qualified minorities, women, individuals with disabilities, and veterans.
