Principal Radar System Engineer
Specializing in leading-edge manned and unmanned aircraft control and landing systems, SNC’s Communication, Navigation, Surveillance/Air Traffic Management Business Area designs and develops surface and airborne radars, 3-dimensional imaging radars, manned and unmanned aircraft flight control systems, GPS navigation systems, support avionics, mobile Air Traffic Control shelters and related products.
SNC is looking for experienced, qualified and highly motivated radar systems engineers responsible for design and development activities.
The qualified Radar System Design candidate will join active programs focused on developing and building radar solutions for multiple platforms and applications. Tasks require detailed knowledge and application of Radar system architectures, RF hardware solutions, Radar signal processing, stochastic processes and probability, RF link budget calculations, and MMW beamsteering antennas to develop MMW imaging radar solutions meeting program schedules and budgets. A detailed understanding of RF subsystems including antennas, transmitters, and receivers is required. Familiarity with FMCW radar systems is a plus.
Successful execution of these tasks requires development of Radar solutions using Matlab and other modeling programs as well as performing trade studies on system architectures. Candidate will assume the lead in the composition and presentation of formal design reviews, successfully meeting all entry and exit criteria for major presentations with customers.
Candidate will be intimately familiar with the complete development cycle of radar systems and leverage SNC processes, progressively advancing solutions through the design cycle from conceptualization and Preliminary design through Unit test and fielding with the customer. Specific tasks to be completed include system architecture development, requirements analysis, definition and generation of system, sub-system and software requirements, and development of detailed test plans and procedures.
Candidate will lead the technical team in system performance analysis, architecture trade studies, system design, system integration, and system testing.
Candidate will understand, plan, and execute engineering design and development activities in accordance with SNC’s SEI-CMMI Maturity Level 3, ISO 9001:2008 and AS9100:2009 compliant processes and specific Customer quality, cost and schedule requirements. Candidate will support continuous process improvement, helping to develop and improve processes to positively impact product quality, performance and increase productivity.
The Candidate will generate detailed, measurable artifacts to evidence progress in support of key program milestones while directing the technical team during the course of the development. This will include an understanding of cost and schedule reporting and measurement leveraging the Earned Value Management System.
As part of the leadership team, candidate will provide lead technical support for marketing and proposal efforts as well as support development of long range technical strategies. Candidate will act as a key technical liaison with senior management and customer stakeholders.
Candidate must be experienced in performance modeling and analysis with Matlab, be proficient in Microsoft Power Point, Word, and Excel and have excellent written and oral communication skills. Candidates must be willing to travel for the purposes of design presentations, field testing, and interaction with prime and or sub-contractors.
Candidate must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and must be eligible to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Candidate shall have 5+ years of relevant experience in radar system engineering and integration and a proven record of transitioning systems from design to production. Proven experience in developing radar systems for government or industry is required.
The ideal candidate will have a B.S. Degree, or higher, in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
