W.C. Petty Elementary School Principal. W.C. Petty is a grades 2-5 school with approximately 470 students in a district of almost 3,200 students.

Job Summary:

The W.C. Petty Elementary School Principal is directly responsible to the superintendent of schools. The primary responsibility of the Principal is instructional leadership of the school. Such leadership involves staff development, teacher evaluation and the ongoing improvement of an excellent instructional program. The Principal will also maintain cooperative relationships with various stakeholders groups associated with the school and provide regular communication to parents, staff and the community.


Experience in school administration and teaching is preferred. The principal must hold or be able to obtain a valid Type 75 certificate.

Specific Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Instructional leadership, administration and supervision of the school with the primary focus of student growth.
  • Direct the activities of the assigned certified and non-certified staff members with regard to the performance of their duties.
  • Supervise and evaluate the instructional staff in the development and implementation of curriculum and improvement of instruction.
  • Establish and maintain positive relations and communication with students, parents and staff.
  • Publicize and interpret policies, programs and procedures.
  • Participate in development and administration of the building budget.
  • Implement Board policies, applicable Illinois School Code and Board/teacher agreements relating to school.
  • Knowledge of best practices regarding instructional technology and 21 st century learning.
  • Utilize data and other sources of information for the improvement of student learning.
  • Foster good interpersonal relations among students, staff and community.
  • Stay current on trends, developments and research as pertinent to educational best practices and apply them to the school.
  • Involve teachers, students and parents in decision-making process where appropriate.
  • Perform such other duties and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent.
