The Principle Scientist will report to the West Coast Team Leader for Cardiovascular and Metabolic Research. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving the research and discovery of new drug compounds. These compounds will offer unique and cutting edge therapies for the treatment of metabolic disease. One of the key responsibilities of this role will include project leadership as well as supervisory skills. The Principle Scientist will make a significant contribution to the discovery strategy in type 2 diabetes. The Principle scientist will have the ability to provide a critical assessment of new and advanced projects. The Management and scientific guidance of external collaborations is a key responsibility of this role. Candidate must have the ability to develop strong relationships within the scientific community.
A Ph.D. is required. At least 10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry is preferred. A strong record in the development of high-quality clinical candidates is preferred. Candidate must have an excellent record of publication in peer-reviewed journals. An ability to work well with leadership and scientists across functional areas is required. Supervisory experience is required. Excellent communication skills and exceptional knowledge of basic and cutting edge science in type 2 diabetes and or obesity is required. Significant expertise in in vitro and ex vivo models of beta cell function and insulin resistance is essential. Significant expertise in the assessment of signaling pathways is essential. Solid experience with in vivo models of type 2 diabetes is highly desired. The location for this position is La Jolla, California.
