The Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a qualified Probation Officer to ensure the protection of the citizens of the Commonwealth by assisting the courts in holding juveniles accountable for their actions; affording them the opportunity for reform and facilitating their adjustment to community standards. Duties include developing and monitoring adherence to juvenile reform plans, making referrals to community human service agencies and providing family oriented counseling services. Duties also include monitoring the treatment and progress of juveniles under court supervision to facilitate their adjustment to community standards.
This position will serve Patrick County, and may be required to assist in other localities (Martinsville and Henry County ), as needed.
Knowledge of the criminal justice system, including court proceedings. Experience in interviewing and counseling, and case management. Demonstrated ability to identify and use community resources and agency services. Ability to make decisions, manage time effectively; and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in human services or criminal justice fields. Experience counseling maladaptive juveniles and their families in a court setting. Proficient in Micosoft XP and Windows 2007.
A pre-employment drug screen and background investigation are required. A valid Virginia driver's license may be required by the date of employment.
