Entry Level Position. To protect the public and strengthen families and communities in Virginia Beach through professional and effective interventions for youth on probation or parole and their families while youth are in the community or placement.
Duties: Interviewing clients for reports, completing reports, testifying in court, developing and monitoring adherence to supervision plans, making referrals to community human services agencies and providing family orientated interventions that target criminogenic risk factors. Duties also include facilitating groups, monitoring community service, and providing transportation as needed for clients.
Conditions of Employment: Ability to be mobile in the community and travel throughout the state. Applicant will be subject to transfer to other duties within the Court Service Unit.
Knowledge of the juvenile justice system, criminogenic risk factors, evidence based practices and effective interventions. Familiar with Team Supervision. Practical knowledge of Motivational Interviewing, Effective Practices in Community Supervision (EPICS) or WhyTry. Must possess the ability to gather facts and collate information into written reports. Must have excellent writing and oral communication skills. Ability to assess and analyze information to resolve problems and make decisions. Requires the ability to manage time effectively and work within short deadlines. Ability to interpret regulations and guidelines. Ability to communicate effectively with people from all socio-economic groups, races, creeds, and religions. Basic keyboarding skills required.
Preferred qualifications include a degree in a field related to criminal justice, social work, sociology, psychology, or counseling, Virginia Court Service Unit intern experience.
