BAE Systems is seeking a detail-oriented manufacturing engineer with a strong background in the machining and fabrication of medium-to-large size, precision components for the defense industry. The successful candidate will be able to read and interpret complex engineering drawings as well as create and/or optimize manufacturing process instructions for production personnel. Prefer some experience working with large-scale NC machining equipment, cutting tool technology and tool/fixture design and application. Must possess a thorough working knowledge of GD & T symbols and principles as well as the ability to provide practical application of GD & T nomenclature to machining and inspection practices. This position works to provide daily manufacturing engineering support in production areas and must be able to communicate effectively across a wide variety of engineers, managers, government customers and production personnel.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
--Develops complex fabrication, assembly, processing and test methods including BOMs, work flow, standards, routings, work instructions, fixture/tools/equipment requirements and pick list.
--Develops process instructions, routings, operator work instructions, standards, material requirements, and test methods for process control.
--Dispositions NCRs including repair rework processes; coordinates multi-functional department activities supporting repair/rework; prepares MRB/MRA cause, and corrective action packages for presentation to the approving authority. Prepares Requests for Waiver/Deviation and/or ECP’s/PPE’s; performs or coordinates the performance of engineering analysis review of specifications and drawings needed to support the requested changes.
--Leads activities for internal customers and suppliers in resolving equipment, process, repair, rework, cost and schedule impacts related to production processes. Prepares and implements corrective action to return process to full production status.
--Leads activities for problem solving during fabrication, assembly and test. Analyzes complex problems for process and design deficiencies, provides corrective action and develops PIIs accordingly.
--Develops strategies for assembly test and integration methodology for more complex problems with guidance from more senior engineers.
--Continuously reviews process KPI’s and defect Pareto analysis; solicits operator input, working with shop supervision, modifies/replaces processes to reduce product cost and improve quality.
--May represent the company at tests, meetings, conferences, and reviews with US Government, customers, subcontractors and other defense contractors if required.
--Performs complex trouble-shooting of all systems issues (e.g. electronic and electro-mechanical systems). Diagnoses maintenance issues and may supervise repairs and modifications as required.
--Develops and provides user training.
--Acts as a liaison between design engineering and manufacturing.
--Maintains a safe work environment and ensures compliance with safety objectives and policies.
--Shares responsibility of self-development with immediate supervisor.
High School Diploma or equivalent plus 11 years relevant experience; or relevant Associate’s degree + additional 7 years experience; or relevant Bachelor’s degree + additional 5 years experience.
--Candidate must have, or be eligible to obtain a “Confidential” government security clearance to be considered as a viable applicant.
--Ability to independently diagnose mechanical / electrical / hydraulic, and electro-mechanical problems in a variety of products.
--Applied knowledge of mechanics, machining, welding, and/or assembly processes; SPC, quality monitoring procedures, and quality control standards; MRP based scheduling functions; development of bills of material and labor reporting systems; test and process methods.
--Ability to develop computer simulations and investigate new processes.
--Ability to perform complex, diverse process engineering functions.
--Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment.
--Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
--Good planning, time management and organization skills.
--Sound interpersonal skills used when interfacing, coordinating, and negotiating with Company personnel, customers, and suppliers.
--Ability to make decisions using sound judgment while complying with policies, procedures, appropriate principles and applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
--Ability to develop/demonstrate research and presentation skills.
--Ability to develop and maintain professional and effective relationships with internal and external customers.
--Experience with a variety of inspection equipment and techniques, including laser track and/or CMM is a plus.
--Experience with lathes, VBMs and related is a strong plus.
