Purpose and Summary of position: (5-8 major activities):

Provide technical support to production units and projects in process control area. Develop and implement new process control strategies to improve operations, quality, and safety. Improve plant profitability and operability through designing / implementing control strategies, process modeling, process optimization, plant information systems and investigating / implementing new control / computer technologies. Major activities include:

Plan, design, and coordinate control and instrumentation projects and upgrades
Define, identify and prepare justification for potential areas for process control application
Develop and implement new process control strategies
Provide documentation and training on process control applications
Define and utilize mathematical models, evaluate experimental or plant data, and recommend solutions to process control problems using this data.
Participate in safety studies
Provide support as required for troubleshooting of process control hardware and software

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: (Include 5 – 8 Major Activities)

Experience working with DCS hardware and software, PLCs and data historians in a chemical plant or refinery
Working knowledge of chemical and utility processes (e.g. Reactions, Distillation, Boiler)
Chemical engineering analysis
Process modeling and optimization
Control theory and application
Working knowledge of computer programming
Working knowledge of modern instrumentation and analyzers
Good written and verbal communication skills
Strong ability to multi-task and work in a self-directed manner

Required Experience:
10 years experience in a Chemical Manufacturing environment with 5yrs in a Process Control role.

Required Education:
BS in Chemical Engineering

Desirable Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Process or production engineering experience in a chemical plant or refinery
Advanced regulatory process control design, specification, implementation, commissioning, and / or maintenance experience
Advanced control theory
Advanced statistical analysis
Digital system design
Experience with configuration and setup of computer networks
Experience with Honeywell and / or Emerson control systems
