The Ascend Performance Materials Process Engineering Dept. is seeking a highly motivated Chemical Engineer with leadership ability and the desire to do chemical process design. This position will have an important role in developing the design for projects to expand capacity, reduce costs, and improve the quality of Ascend’s Nylon 6,6 and Chemical Intermediates products. The position offers a challenging environment with broad responsibilities and opportunities for growth in both leadership & technical skills. This position can be based in Alvin, TX, Pensacola, FL, or Decatur, AL.
Identifies and develops process solutions which meet the performance and flexibility needs of the business.
Provides scale-up from laboratory and pilot plant data to commercial scale processes.
Performs process simulation and other modeling needed to evaluate potential process and equipment design alternatives.
Serves as the process design engineer on capital project teams.
Develops or modifies process flow-sheets, including PFDs and P&IDs.
Provides process data to collaboratively develop equipment design specifications.
Applies approved design practices, work processes, and design tools to develop innovative, cost effective solutions.
Develops process design packages in support of capital projects and Technology improvement programs. Such packages include the design basis, PFDs, equipment specifications, and economics for viable design alternatives.
Effectively applies the new technology development and capital project stage-gate processes to deliver project deliverables.
BS or MS in Chemical Engineering.
5 – 10 years industrial experience.
Self-motivated leader, capable of leading process design teams and rising in the organization.
Strong technical and analytical skills with the ability to innovate and solve complex problems.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with cross-functional teams to take an idea from concept to commercialization.
Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
Proven track record of delivering results.
Proficient in the use of process design software and simulation packages.
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities.
Experience using Six-Sigma tools.
