Shire's US Internship Program offers hands-on work experience to students completing their undergraduate and graduate degrees and allows Shire to engage with the local community and discover new and emerging talent.

Please Note: Shire will accept and consider intern applications from relatives of employees; however, individuals will not be hired if they are in the direct line of supervision of a relative or if there is a work-related conflict of interest.
- Enrollment at an accredited college/university
- Completion of at least sophomore year of undergraduate study by internship start date (Both undergraduate and graduate students that apply will be considered)
- Major in a field appropriate to the internship
- Minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Legal authorization to work in the US
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Ability to start on one of the designated start dates.
Process Development Summer Intern
Purpose of Internship:
Studies on factors affecting product growth using a scale down model. These studies will investigate the following to characterize 3-D fibroblast growth, DNA yield, collagen and growth factor.
1. Kinetics of cell attachment on vicryl scaffold and EVA surface
2. Effect of serum type and concentration
3. Other key nutrient requirements
4. Mechanisms of overgrowth formation
College Junior and Senior enrolled in graduate program in Biology/Chemical or Biochemical Engineering/ Biochemistry/ Microbiology or equivalent
Basic understanding / experience of cell culture processes and aseptic techniques.
Working knowledge of Microsoft office with some proficiency in MS Excel.
Knowledge of basic statistics and/or any statistical software will be a plus but not essential.
Ability to come in on non-regular hours including weekends may be necessary on a few occasions.
Ability to lift at least 30 pounds.
