Summary :
The Process Improvement Engineer initiates and coordinates the continuous improvement efforts within the process lines of a Metal Coaters facility. The Process Improvement Engineer is responsible for the designing, engineering and initiating process improvement projects intended to increase productivity, improve yield and reduce operating costs.
The Process Improvement Engineer coordinates efforts with the Maintenance Manager, Production Manager, Quality Manager, and Regional Operations Manager to ensure that adequate resources are procured and allocated to the completion of improvement initiatives that will result in increased reliability of the Paint Line process and a reduction of unplanned production time losses.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities : ( To include the following, others may be assigned )
Responsible for generating process improvement ideas and bringing those ideas forward for syndication and prioritization with the facility Operations Management Team as well as project management, tracking, and documentation.
Responsible for continued development of automation technology to eliminate human error and reduce manpower resources from the Metal Coaters processes.
Responsible for ensuring adequate design and engineering of existing and/or new (capital) equipment intended to increase productivity, improve yield and reduce operating costs. Coordinates installation efforts with the Management and ensures that process improvement projects are completed on-time.
Responsible for ensuring adequate training of key personnel in the operation and maintenance of newly installed or modified electrical or mechanical equipment, process instrumentation and process control systems.
Ensures that Standard Operating Procedures are in place to govern production and maintenance activities. Assists the Production Manager with verification activities to ensure that plant personnel are acting in accordance with such procedures.
Responsible for initiating, leading, and documenting efforts and results of process improvement teams who are put together for the purpose of investigating and eliminating causes of lost productivity and yield.
Assists the facility Operations Management team with choosing and qualifying external contractors to perform repairs, calibrations and/or equipment installations.
Responsible for understanding and complying with the fundamental principles associated with the Quality and Environmental Management System in place at the Metal Coaters facility.
Communicates daily with the Regional Operations Manager and internal personnel from Production, Maintenance and Quality Control in order to assist in resolving problems and achieving company goals.
Responsible for championing the development and implementation of the 6S Problem Solving Methodolgy for all continuous improvement activities.

Education and/or Experience :
B.S. Degree in Engineering and experience in Industrial Process Engineering and/or Maintenance. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of the educational requirement.

Language Skills :
Ability to read and comprehend documents including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and simple correspondence. Also, the ability to communicate information ( in small group situations ) to other employees.

Mathematical Skills :
Ability to, calculate figures and amounts such as fractions, percentages, area, circumference, volume and densities. Also, the ability to, apply the concepts of statistics and probability to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability :
Ability to, apply common sense understanding to perform work instructions that are furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Also, the ability to, solve problems, which involve multiple variables in a standard situation.

Other Skills & Abilities :
Must have knowledge of Electrical and Mechanical concept’s. Must understand how to read blueprints, and schematics.

The employee is occasionally required to stand; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance. Specific vision abilities include close-up and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Work Environment :
While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally performs near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme cold or heat. The noise level in the work environment is considered moderate.
