Job Description for Process Operator
Chevron Phillips Chemical Company's Conroe Site, Drilling Specialties (north of Houston) is currently seeking to fill Process Operator positions. This is an entry-level position. Process Operators perform routine, corrective and emergency operating, maintenance, housekeeping, sampling and recording activities necessary for the safe, environmentally sound and economical operation of the Conroe facility.
Operators in this position receive work direction from the Chief Operator. They will work with other Operators in performing routine plant operating duties, including, but not limited to the following tasks:
Attends and participates in a team safety meeting once per month and in daily toolbox meetings.
Performs assigned area inspections of the operating unit, documents findings and writes work orders to correct deficiencies.
Completes annual regulatory and operating training and demonstrates proficiency in each area.
Performs the job functions described in the facilities Operating Work Instructions, Safety and Loss Prevention Plan, Environmental Procedures, Quality Assurance Plan, and Lockout Procedures.
Rotates through four operating positions:
Control Room: Monitors instruments and cameras, responds to alarms, communicates with outside operators via radio, records operating data and makes adjustments on equipment to maintain safety of personnel and equipment and the quality of products, and documents personnel entering and leaving the facility.
Process: Monitors equipment using visual, auditory, olfactory, and touch senses while conducting hourly rounds. Monitors local instrumentation for pressure, temperature and level of material in equipment. Makes adjustments on equipment by opening or closing valves. Performs housekeeping in work area by picking up debris and washing with water hose.
Dryer: Monitors the Dryer operations in the Soltex process. Records data from drying equipment and makes adjustments to equipment to maintain quality product. Performs laboratory testing on product (pH, moisture, etc.). Unloads super sacks of additive using a fork truck and an electric hoist. Performs housekeeping of area by picking up debris and washing with water hose.
Packaging: Operates packaging equipment to package material into 50-pound paper bags. Assures bag magazine is loaded with enough bags to continue running. Marks the lot number on the packages. Takes the pallets to the warehouse with a fork truck and operates a stretch wrap machine. Takes samples of finished product, labels and saves for the quality assurance department.
Position requires ability to climb, bend, lift and perform a wide range of physical activities; ability to work at various heights; entry into confined spaces; work in various weather conditions; ability to listen and follow instructions. Must follow all plant safety guidelines and policies, which includes the wearing of fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Assists and fills in for Utility operators in waste water operations and feed stock unloading systems.
A 2-year associate’s degree in operating engineering OR prior experience working as an operator in a chemical plant is preferred.
Successful candidates will be required to take a physical examination, which includes a drug and alcohol screen, fitness for duty exam and criminal background check.
Must have the ability to walk, climb stairs and ladders to a height of 100 feet, and lift 50 pounds.
Required to work 12 hour rotating shift work schedule (including nights, weekends, holidays). Operating needs of the unit dictate work schedule and will be required to work overtime.
Must read, write, and speak English and will be required to understand and follow plant policies and procedures.
Must possess basic computer and mathematics skills and have a desire to learn more.
Must be able to work in a team environment.
Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment including respirators and self-contained breathing apparatus.
Must be able to use hand tools (pliers, wrench, screw driver, etc), pneumatic wrench, hoist, pressure washer, and two-way radio.
Must be able to drive a forklift.
Must be able to use lab scales, pH meter, hydrometer, thermometer, oven, multi-mixer, hot plate and moisture analyzer.
