The Dow Chemical Company has an exciting opportunity for a Process Operator in Joliet, IL.

Purpose of Job

Under the leadership of the Site Production Leader and as a member of a self-directed, high performance team, this individual operates assigned areas of the Styrofoam® extruded polystyrene foam plant in a safe, environmentally responsible and efficient manner.

Key responsibilities include

. Meet behavior expectations in the areas of Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S), quality, productivity, and teamwork and actively participate in continuous improvement efforts.

. Perform assigned core and supplemental roles as outlined by the Operate Plant, Manage Product Quality, and Produce to Plan/Record Production Data work processes.

. Perform routine and non-routine tasks as assigned utilizing the Master Task List.

. Follow Standard Operating Procedures to operate assigned area of the plant

. Safely perform manual operations such as cutting off foam during start-ups/jam-ups, manually stacking and grinding foam, and filling solids additive feeders.

. Utilize personal computer skills to optimize and troubleshoot product quality and equipment operations.

. Analyze process and product variation and take corrective action utilizing Statistical Quality Control/Statistical Process Control techniques.

. Set up finishing equipment for product changes which involves manual, mechanical skills.

. Perform on-shift predictive/preventive maintenance (PPM), breakdown repair and scheduled shutdown/turnaround activities in area of expertise.

. Document maintenance work requests and activities performed utilizing Dow's maintenance tracking system.

. Initiate and participate in Root Cause Analysis of EH&S, Quality, and Reliability incidents.

. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

. Participate in and lead daily tailgate meetings with Shift Operating Team.

. Perform standard and non-routine testing of product quality.

. Communicate critical shift change information to the oncoming crew and document problems and learning value using tools such as electronic logbook, MS Outlook, and voice mail.


High School Diploma or GED

Must have at least 2 years of work experience in Construction, Manufacturing, Craft, Industrial or related field.

Mechanical or electrical experience either in a formal job or as a hobby is an asset.

Must be capable of performing simple math computations involving ratios and fractions.

Must possess strong interpersonal and teamwork skills and be capable of working in an empowered team environment.

Must be willing and able to meet the travel requirements, which are minimal but may include visits to customers or vendors supplying new equipment.

Must have a current valid US drivers license.

Must have experience using computers and be comfortable learning new systems such as Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.

Working conditions:
Must be able to work a 12-hr rotating shift schedule (2 days, 2 nights, off 4 days) and will work on assignments in all areas of the plant.

Overtime is required to cover vacancies due to illness, vacation of other team members, and scheduled meetings.

Production area is non-air conditioned and requires the wearing of long sleeves.

A high degree of manual foam handling is required utilizing safe ergonomic behaviors.

Individual must be capable of lifting 50 lb.

Individual must be capable of climbing stairs and ladders frequently during the shift.

Individual must be medically approved to wear a respirator.

The campus is smoke-free

A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States on a

permanent basis (U.S. citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, or Qualifying Asylee/Refugee).
