The Process Technician will perform hand’s on tasks and make observations for process development and process engineering efforts under the guidance of a process engineer, technologist or scientist. The role and objectives are (a) to perform laboratory testing and processing, (b) to monitor, sample and measure pilot and plant trials of new processes or practices, and (c) to support commissioning of process technology through monitoring, sampling, capability studies and measurement.
Laboratory and field tasks supporting process development, process engineering, and commercial projects/trials in support of operations and business entities.
Follow all safety guidelines established by Imerys EHS.
Perform process-related test and studies at laboratory, pilot, and industrial scale.
Perform key measurements and non-routine measurements following work instructions or instructions from supervisor.
Communicate experimental and trial results through Excel spreadsheets stored in project database, and by e-mail.
Assists in the monitoring and evaluating different process equipment from suppliers and different process flows for selection of final process design.
Participate as a team member in projects involving process engineering.
Use time management to prioritize tasks in accordance to work plans, and be accountable for the deliverables to internal customers.
Record data and observations into Laboratory Notebook.
Assist with writing work instructions for tests or equipment.
Train on equipment and methods with other Process Technicians, Engineers or Pilot Plant Supervisor.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Associate degree with science, physics or engineering course-work or minimum five years lab experience in the IMERYS Crude or Quality lab.
> 3 years process development and engineering experience in a operation or pilot plant environment is preferred.
BS in chemical/minerals engineering or 4-yr technology degree preferred.
Analytical: laboratory chemistry, basic math, mineral processing.
Operate instruments and equipment located at Pilot Plant.
Communication skills including technical writing (notebook) and verbal (observations).
Computer skills with emphasis on Excel and Lotus Notes based software..
Interpersonal skills that enable a good rapport with management, scientists, engineers, technicians and plant personnel.
