We have an exciting opportunity for a Procurement Analyst, specializing in Spend Analysis to join our headquarters Procurement Department in Chevy Chase, MD.

The primary role of this position is to perform in-depth, creative Spend Analysis as well as provide flexibility and creativity to take on one time Special Projects in support of the entire sourcing team’s efforts in building a highly performing Strategic Sourcing team for HHMI. This position will conduct analyses on pricing for multiple commodity lines and supply categories which includes analysis on pricing trends specific to HHMI as well as working with the Procurement Commodity Leads to follow market trends on pricing. This collaborative position will maintain and produce reports to assist the Commodity Leads and Commodity Support staff in effectively monitoring the performance of supplier contracts against the contract terms and conditions.

The primary business objective for this position is to provide facts and data that will further improve pricing and contract compliance with HHMI Strategic Sourcing agreements. In addition to the tasks detailed below, this position requires the need to embrace unique one time projects with innovation and creativity. This position may often support multiple ongoing initiatives simultaneously in addition to the standard reporting duties. Creates reports and procurement materials for HHMI research community and senior management; assist with the publication of these materials to the HHMI portal. Reports may come from various sources, including Ariba, The Advisory Board Group “Spend Compass” Application, Cognos and PeopleSoft. Support in the refinement of analytical tools and methodologies for purchasing statistical data.

Principal Responsibilities:
Analyzes contracts and renewal terms with HHMI’s suppliers. Responsible for analyzing current contracts and prices to ensure compliance with contract specifications.
Develops thorough spend analysis reports for Commodity leads as requested and assists in trend analysis.
Maintains and utilizes various databases and spreadsheets, provides innovative advice on how to best utilize data for various department analysis needs, advises Commodity Leads/Support on significant changes or trends, prepares monthly analysis and additional reports as required sources, and periodically audits computer outputs to ensure data accuracy.
Collaborate with other team members to learn and understand the various sourcing commodities.
Develop thorough and repeatable processes to aid in the analysis of commodity specific sourcing strategies and various procurement methods such as basket analysis, etc.
Develop reporting for special pricing studies.
Perform internal and external market research and analyze issues related to pricing and provide advanced analysis as appropriate.
Conduct external market analyses to assess commodity pricing trends and opportunities.
Develop and deliver influential presentations that summarize complex analyses and drive effective business decisions.
Develops report specifications for Procurement Metrics.
Reports upon trends in metrics and assists in strategy development to impact trends in procurement activity through supplier marketing and spend analysis at regional levels, etc.
Assists with report inquiries from the field on Ariba reports.
Ariba report expert.
Develops standard queries to monitor supplier performance for Procurement Commodity Support staff. Establishes queries which demonstrate trends in supplier performance over time, queries may be supplier and/or commodity specific.
Perform vendor research related to product comparisons and pricing data; requires the use of The Advisory Board Group’s Spend Compass reporting application and other available Market driven assessment tools to complete these spend analysis.
Assists with administration and validation of the Oracle data warehouse. May assist with implementing changes to the database in conjunction with the Associate Director, Strategic Sourcing.
Responsible for preparing, editing and producing various procurement materials on the purchasing website.
Using the purchasing and supplier analysis databases, provides queries for purchasing analysis purposes and advises management or field sites. Creates and distributes routine management reports. Provides guidance and direction to field Procurement Coordinators on the process of report writing.
Develop spend analysis for OAS’s by specific region utilizing Ariba reports to demonstrate opportunities for increasing “on contract purchases” or for demonstrating lost opportunities based upon available contract pricing.
Vendor maintenance back up, to include adding and updating vendor records.
Interfaces with Procurement Technology group to help resolve issues relating to Ariba Network suppliers when necessary. Responsible for monitoring the quality of commodity coding and interfacing with the Procurement Technology group on resolving commodity coding discrepancies. Assists with the creation of commodities and their affiliated accounts in PeopleSoft.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of procurement and sourcing strategy and activities, generally acquired through prior procurement experience. Knowledge of research terminology, procedures, and practices desirable.
Bachelor degree in business administration, supply chain or related field required.
Approximately 5 years previous experience with laboratory purchasing procedures and familiarity with laboratory supplies and equipment
Approximately one to two years negotiating experience with suppliers desirable
Significant experience in HTML, writing SQL queries, Cognos, Ariba, Advisory Board Spend Compass and Crystal reports desirable
Proficient with MS Office, with special emphasis on Excel, Word, Project and Access
Ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels in identifying and resolving issues.
Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to prepare accurate and appropriate documentation and to review, proofread, and check for accuracy final documents.
Ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
Ability to attend training courses, learn and apply new technologies.
Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to take notes while managing meetings and communications.
