As a key component of the Product Strategy and Investment Services department, US Product & Market Research (USPMR) is responsible for providing product, market, and competitive insight to internal business areas across the firm. USPMR provides in-depth product research and analysis to enhance business development opportunities in the US retail and institutional distribution channels.

The group also provides market intelligence to support product development/rationalization efforts and strategic product line initiatives.

Furthermore, USPMR supports product positioning efforts through careful analysis of the competitive marketplace. USPMR works with a wide array of internal clients including the IVZ Board, Legal/Compliance, Sales, Marketing, and the various investment teams.

The Product Analyst for the US Product & Market Research unit will participate in a variety of investment product-related research projects and initiatives.

Responsibilities for the role include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Apply proficiency with third-party databases and research tools
  • Support all distribution channels in product-related inquiries
  • Provide competitive intelligence to various internal business partners
  • Maintain production of selected recurring reports
  • Participate on special projects as needed
Apply proficiency with third-party databases and research tools

  • Understands of the full functionality of available research tools
o Examples of competitor databases and tools include Lipper LANA, Morningstar Direct, Zephyr StyleADVISOR, Strategic Insight, and eVestment Alliance

  • Utilizes expertise on third-party databases for ongoing and ad hoc competitor and market research, pairing the right tool(s) with each request
Support all distribution channels in product-related inquiries

  • Supports Retail, Institutional, Variable Insurance, Subadvised, and SMA sales efforts through direct and indirect product work
  • Provides relevant and thorough information related to investment performance, process, positioning, and characteristics. Typical examples include:
a) Assisting National Accounts with product placement at broker/dealers

b) Assisting Wholesalers at the advisor level in competitive or complementary sales efforts

c) Assisting Institutional Sales with head-to-head comparisons for finals preparation

  • Works directly with both internal wholesalers as well as client-facing professionals in the development of supporting materials and information
  • May assist with product-related questions on Requests for Proposals (RFPs)
Provide competitive intelligence to various internal business partners

  • Supports Product Managers, Investment Analysts, and Client Portfolio Managers in identifying and tracking key competitors and uncovering potential takeover opportunities
  • Assists Invesco’s US product development efforts by providing research on peer group construction, historical performance, and pricing-related information
  • Supports Invesco’s strategic planning efforts by producing analysis on overall competitive position and strengths/weaknesses of specific products
Maintain production of selected recurring reports

  • Generates monthly and quarterly reporting packages related to performance and industry flows
  • Performs quality control checks as required for various reporting components
  • Coordinates with other internal teams such as Global Performance Measurement and Risk as needed
Participate on special projects as needed

  • Assumes a supporting role in larger, more complex projects and may have a leading role in smaller, less complex projects

Work Experience

  • Approximately 3-5 years of experience in the financial services industry is necessary to successfully perform the responsibilities of this position
  • Experience in Mutual Fund analysis and/or Marketing is preferred

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Finance, Economics, Marketing or a related field is required

  • NASD Series 6 must be obtained within the first 120 days of employment or the employee may be released from service

  • Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with a wide variety of individuals within the company and the investment industry is required
  • The ability to cooperate in a team environment is critical
  • Also must possess keen analytical and mathematical skills which are required for reviewing market information and producing meaningful marketing reports
  • Must show the ability to meet deadlines, establish priorities and concentrate on detailed information sometimes under stressful conditions for up to 95% of the work time
  • Must show superior customer service by generating and sending research requests in a timely manner
  • Must be proficient in the use of current research databases and software systems (Lipper LANA, Morningstar Direct, Zephyr StyleADVISOR, Strategic Insight, and eVestment Alliance)
  • Must be proficient in Excel, Word and Powerpoint and demonstrate an ability to use technology to improve efficiency
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the rules and regulations surrounding the securities industry
