This candidate will be responsible for performing professional quality engineering research and evaluation in support of the company's complex semiconductor capital equipment while interacting closely with Lam's electrostatic chuck (ESC) suppliers. The ideal candidate will play an active role managing ESC projects and products relative to supplier manufacturing development, quality initiatives, supplier selection, problem solving as well as designing and conducting independent experiments and tests. Project management duties include working with cross-functional teams consisting of supply business management, engineering, manufacturing, field service and suppliers to provide feedback and requirements during ESC development through to production release. Candidates need to exhibit excellent problem solving skills: defining the problem, identify objectives, assessing risk, develop approach, analyze results and provide recommendations. Ideal candidate will direct and manage manufacturing process/quality implementation of required changes and modifications that include a variety of processes such as metal machining, silicone bonding, ceramic production and grinding as well as anodize and plasma coating. Without limitation the expert candidate will perform duties and have working knowledge of:
The ability to communicate fluently technical ideas and concepts both written and verbal forms. Provide Design-For-Manufacturing inputs to design engineers for all aspects of ESC manufacturing and testing. Ensure suppliers’ manufacturing processes – domestic and international – are in place to produce reliable products in a repeatable manner; develops and audits quality control systems. Develop and drive ESC supplier improvement plans
Manage suppliers, analytical testing and engineering resources to perform failure analysis on ESC's returned from the field. Coordinate development activities with suppliers and product groups in developing new ESC products. Conduct effective supplier visits – domestic and international – in evaluating and managing new and existing suppliers. Understand the capacitive and resistive nature of dielectrics (ceramics) along with the understanding of ESC performance specific to Johnson-Robic and columbic designs. Working knowledge of thermal conductivity of silicone adhesives and ceramics in multi-layer assemblies. Experience with silicone adhesive application methods and curing profiles. Understanding of ceramic manufacturing from powder form to final grinding and the effects on resistivity. Knowledge of implementing industry standard process control techniques such as six sigma techniques to manage and develop production efficiencies and quality for Lam products. Qualifications Minimum Education:
BS/MS degree in a technical field listed in (but not limited to) the following: IE, ME, ChE, Chemistry, Mat Sci
Minimum Experience:
Requires 7 + years applicable experience specific to ESC manufacturing processes and design – ceramic manufacturing, silicone applications and bonding, functional performance testing – in aggressive etch environments
Strong project management, organizational and communication skills
Ability to travel internationally, 25-50% of time could be required
The ability to read drawings (with understanding of ANSIY14.5) are required
Working knowledge of SPC required
