The Production Artist (PA) role is responsible for partnering with Creative and Production Services to create production-ready mechanical files for TJMaxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods and TJX Corporate brands. This role ensures that all artwork and files are accurate, adhere to brand standards, meet and exceed time line and deliverable requirements, and follow all specifications as provided by Production Services. The PA has a working understanding of 4-color process, Pantone Matching System, Gracol, RGB, LAB, fonts and font editing, mechanical creation and has an in-depth understanding of Mac operating systems. The PA role has a solid understanding of image formats; EPS, TIF, GIF, JPEG, PDF, PSD, CR2, FFF, TIF, and when to use them, along with a strong grasp of graphic compression tools and their use. The PA role has a basic understanding of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and also has working exposure of various File Transfer Protocols. The PA strives to bring the fastest, most efficient mechanical and technical solutions to TJX marketing materials. The PA role is required to have extensive working knowledge of the entire Adobe CS, RAW image formats and image processing, Digital Asset Management (DAM) and image resolution restrictions. This position approaches technical/file trouble-shooting and design issues or considerations with enthusiasm and takes great personal reward in problem solving and exceeding expectations. The PA role is required to have an expert-level ability to follow instruction and maintain a positive attitude. The PA pays close attention to the details that others miss and relentlessly raises questions and concerns to all partnering associates. The PA should be able to work at speeds that others aspire to achieve, versioning up to 100 materials over a matter of 8-12 hours, while maintaining composure, enthusiasm and especially a positive attitude toward the team and the business. This role is required to follow all the organization process within file server and systems, and guide others through changes and barriers, and must be flexible and adapt quickly. The PA partners with the Studio Supervisor to share job status, feedback, recommendations and barriers, striving to improve all aspects of Marketing Services to be a pro-active contributor. This position is determined to be the best and holds their knowledge and skills in high regard and is focused on contributing to a shared vision.
70% Responsible for creating production-ready mechanical files for TJMaxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods and TJX Corporate brands. Retouch Hi-Res imagery as needed. Re-sizing, cropping, and file format changes of various files. Build large format materials to appropriate scale as directed by production department. Investigate new techniques and ways to work more efficiently, saving time and building files that follow industry standards.
20% Partner with Senior Production Artists, Studio Supervisor and Creative Services on design-based considerations in order to observe brand standards. Collaborate with team members and share knowledge and solutions discovered while creating files, working with layouts and while partnering with other departments.
10% Adhere to all administrative and processed based expectations; time charging, layout/mechanical approval process, team building exercises and status meetings.
3-5 years of related experience
Associates degree (minimum) in graphic arts technology or related field
Strong production skills; complete understanding of Mac platform and all Mac-based programs
Balance of excellent typography skills, an understanding of photography, illustration, and print process
Keen eye for detail, color, and a proven talent for conceptual design
Solid understanding of image formats (EPS, TIF, GIF, JPEG, PDF)
Strong technical skills in large format printing, web/sheet fed/direct mail/pre-press, retouching, 4c printing, digital file preparation, 4-color print and production processes, and pre-press delivery formats
Full comprehension of the requirements necessary for building production-ready “mechanical” files
Working knowledge of Flash and Dreamweaver
Understanding of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) – and a proven ability to create usable templates
Understanding of graphic compression tools and their use required; prior experience with FTP required
Understands photography, illustration, print process and typography
Can translate design 3 dimensionally
Ability to prioritize and handle a large volume of projects
Able to partner and build relationships internally and externally
Ability to effectively present ideas to manager, and creative team
Intelligent thinking, strong organizational skills, and accuracy
Proficient in InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
