DESCRIPTION

The Production Database Administrator is responsible for providing technical support for the database environment including overseeing the development and organization of the databases, assessment and implementation of new technologies, and providing Information Technology with a long-term perspective on the relationship of database technology to the business opportunities facing the company. It is extremely important to the company that online processing database systems offer the highest reliability and performance possible. The DBA is challenged to work with architecture, application development and operations to help achieve a state-of-the-art environment that meets current and future business objectives. Trains and develops technical support and applications staff to better utilize online processing databases environment. Provides and designs tools to assist in the management of the database and transaction processing environment.Works to provide a working model of our transaction processing environment for capacity assessment and planning.

This position provides 30% support for European operations; 70% for US Operations.

DUTIES

Work in a team to provide 24x7 support of Production SQL Server databases in a Windows 2003 cluster high-availability environment
Perform database administration activities including but not limited to installation, configuration, monitor, backup and maintenance of SQL Server databases in multiple environments
Monitor SQL Server database performance. Tune and optimize queries, stored procedures and indexing as needed
Troubleshoot database, system or other related problems that impact database availability
Review and promote code changes into Staging and Production environments
Utilize standard company tools and procedures to record change and problem activities for tracking purposes
Deploy patches to SQL servers on a regular basis
Support and periodically test database back-up and recovery procedures
Create and document database related processes, procedures and best practices
Act as the primary interface with application support staff and internal business clients
Help periodically with support requests from internal business units
Executes project and internal initiative responsibilities as assigned or delegated
Be available for after-hour deployment as needed
Participate in a 24X7 on call rotation

QUALIFICATIONS

3+ years of direct administration in a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 environment or later version
5+ years of experience in T-SQL tuning, stored procedures, functions and complex queries
Proficiency in working with SQL Server in a Windows clustered environment
Working experience with SSMS, SSIS, SSRS and related tools
OLAP and data warehouse knowledge is a plus
Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting and resolving database problems
Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
Self-starter, able to work independently and as part of a team in a fast paced environment.
Bachelor degree, or equivalent experience, in Computer Science or equivalent education and experience
