The Production Editor manages the production process of adult titles, approximately 40 per year. Working closely with authors, editors, and designers, he or she sets workflow and schedules that enable assigned titles to be published on established dates. The production editor hires and supervises freelance copy editors, proofreaders, and indexers, performs editorial and production tasks (copy-editing, proofreading, file cleanup, preparation of design manuscripts, entering of edits, scanning, paging, preparation of PDFs) and other tasks assigned by the Director of Manuscript Editing.
Requirements Excellent organizational ability, attention to detail, and careful adherence to tight schedules. Effective communication to ensure smooth working relationships with authors, editors, designers, production staff, and freelancers. Thorough understanding of Word, InDesign, and editorial and production processes; willingness to learn to use the editorial template. Requires at least three years book-related production experience.
