The Dow Chemical Company has an immediate opening available for a
in the Trichloroethylene/HCl facility in
which is part of Dow’s Chlorinated Organics business. It is the largest global producer of chlorinated organic products. Dow is the recognized leader in supplying chlorinated organic products and solutions for safe and sustainable uses as intermediates or feedstocks to produce electronics, pharmaceuticals, agricultural products, and fluoropolymers and non-ozone-depleting refrigerants, as well as solvents for non-emitting, closed systems in cleaning applications.
The production engineer role exists to provide run-plant, integration, and technical support for both the Trichloroethylene plant and the HCl assets on the site. The successful candidate will act as the Production Coordinator and as a technical resource for operations personnel, applying process safety knowledge, technical acumen, and leadership skills to optimize operations, resolve plant issues and enable production of low cost, quality Trichlor and HCl products to meet the customer demands. This role is crucial because both the Trichlor and HCl assets enable a number of other technologies and plants across the site with linkage to approximately 50% of the plants on site.
Leader in driving to zero environmental, health and safety (EH&S) incidents.
Works with Production Leader and Operations Leader to lead the facility to achieve all plant/site/business goals including EH&S, reliability, asset capability, cost, quality, improvements and six sigma.
Provide daily technical support and leadership in advanced troubleshooting in order to run the facility safely in an environmentally sound way to optimum capability. Coaches operations to resolution of opportunities for improvement in plant operation.
Daily measure, track and improve on key performance indicators for the units.
Strives for expertise of Dow’s EH&S standards, policies and procedures with the ability to translate them into efficient implementation in the plant. Leads by example and coaches operations to flawless execution of standards, policies and procedures.
Ensures effective and current job procedures exist for work done in plant. Coaches operations to improvement in operating discipline.
Ensures that department remains in compliance in regards to facility management systems and action items.
Serves as back up to other roles in the facility.
Promote Six Sigma initiative for Trichlor/HCl assets through identification and execution of projects.
Ensures effective communications and linkage between plant operations, integration partners/plants, and other functions (Maintenance, EH&S, Site Logistics, etc).
Ensures Most Effective Technology (MET) and specific Operating Discipline requirements are in place.
Leads root case investigation (RCI) and corrective/preventative actions.
Serve as a manufacturing representative for small capital and/or expense projects.
Helps drive implementation of work processes and performs various roles as determined by the plant/site/business need.
Focuses on asset and technology related strategies and goals.
Ensures major shut downs are properly planned and executed.
Contributes to an environment that fosters team and individual empowerment. Models expected behaviors for an empowered organization.
Tracks budgets and helps drive and manage appropriate spending for assigned area.
A Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering is the minimum requirement for this role. We will consider other engineering degrees if the candidate has at least 3 years of experience in a Production/Run Plant Engineer role working directly with reactors or reaction chemistry.
The following skills and/or experiences are desired:
Strong technical and interpersonal skills, along with a high level of initiative are essential to be successful in this role. An outgoing and proactive approach to communication and problem solving is pivotal.
The ability and desire to work in an empowered team environment
Familiarity with Six Sigma or similiar methodology
Familiarity with modeling software (i.e. Aspen)
