The Production Manager is also responsible for improving the overall operational efficiency, quality, safety, housekeeping, and teamwork of the operations. Works with leadership team, staff and customers to execute operational objectives, policies and strategies as they relate to supporting the operating plan and strategic direction of the organization. Develops, implements, and coordinates the continuous improvement program to prevent or eliminate defects in new or existing products, improve manufacturing and assembling processes and efficiencies. Contributes as a key member of the Assembly/Packaging management team, which consists of Manufacturing Engineer, Quality Assurance, Production Control Manager, Group Leaders, and Employee Resource & Development Specialists. Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) Engineering, Business or other technical degree.

  • Minimum 5 years management or leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Mature interpersonal relationship skills
  • Organizational team building skills
  • Solid communication (oral and written) and comprehension skills
  • Experience with ISO and other Quality Management Systems and tools such as TQM, Six Sigma, Lean, Visual Factory, 5S, etc.
  • Proficient in MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Internet
  • Basic understanding of financial, accounting, and budgeting principles
  • Self-starter/initiator/independent worker
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Multi-tasking and project management skills

  • Familiar with an ERP or MRP system

Critical Job Duties:

Operations Leadership
  • Manages departmental personnel, utilizing lean management techniques, such as 5S with a continual focus on waste minimization / elimination though the development and use of quality knowledge, adherence to quality requirements and identifying / correcting operator related scrap generation.
  • Conducts regular reviews of operation metrics, determines root cause and corrective action and establishes goals for improvement.
  • Reviews production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations.
  • Prepares operational schedules, establishes priorities and coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure effective, efficient labor utilization to meet production schedules. Maintains awareness through communication with Production Supervisor, Group Leads, and Line Leads of the status of schedules and takes direct action when needed to resolve and/or prevent any delays.
  • Develops and implements new job methods and procedures in accordance with lean principles. Coordinates efforts with Group Leaders. Manages and utilizes systems to track continuous improvement projects.
  • Administers formal cross-training program for all employees, monitoring for skills and knowledge deficiencies; takes remedial action to provide the necessary training for all team members to reach and maintain the required performance level.
  • Creates plans and actions to meet specific safety goals of cost per employee, zero lost time accidents per year and conducts regularly scheduled safety audits.
  • Ensures compliance with safety and environmental rules and regulations. Maintains work area in a safe manner and ensures compliance to 5S program. Holds regular safety meetings and uses problem-solving techniques to determine root cause safety issues and enforce solid corrective action.
  • Inspects and performs routine maintenance on machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
  • Manages customer requirements with team to ensure quantity and quality levels are achieved. Ensures timely delivery with correct documentation and product.
  • Creates, implements and ensures efficient work practices and policies in the production environment
  • Ensures appropriate facility and manufacturing environment which includes review/authorization of capital and equipment.
  • Ensures principles of preventative maintenance are applied for equipment and operations. Measures and monitors plant capacity and recommends areas for improvement or investment.

Metrics and Financial Management/Reporting Reviews analyses of activities, costs, and other data to determine progress toward stated goals and objectives.
  • Tracks, analyzes, and ensures successful business performance through customer service level attainment, KPI’s, and variance analysis
  • Implements and maintains production measurement tools, including but not limited to Productivity tracking, Balanced Score Card, ISO and any other relevant and required measurement tools.
  • Successfully achieves budgetary and service level goals.

Employee Development/Management Communicates departmental vision, goals and expectations.
  • Performs informal and formal performance reviews, offering praise for good performance and providing improvement goals and corrective actions for substandard performance through coaching, counseling and individual continual feedback. Motivates team to gain and maintain their dedication to meeting individual and departmental objectives.
  • Develops and implements programs to increase the value of employment in CS; ensures the hiring of the right people, in the right job, at the right time to align with the overall mission and business objectives.

Safety and Quality Systems Management

In alignment with Quality Supervisor, ensures communication and training of quality standards/ISO regulation to production staff
  • Participates in management meetings with quality assurance program department heads to establish, delineate, and review program organizational policies, to coordinate functions and operations between departments, and to establish responsibilities and procedures for attaining objectives.
