The Program Assistant IV provides administrative support for the Division of Marine Fisheries Standard Commercial Fishing License Eligibility Pool; issues commercial fishing licenses and permits; and issues North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission (NCWRC) hunting and fishing license and vessel registrations. The position will inform the public and fishermen on marine fisheries rules and regulations, license criteria and eligibility, and convey other fisheries information. The Program Assistant will use the Division’s and NCWRCs point-of-sale and on-line license sales systems. Duties include: Provide applications to the public; review applications for completeness; gather information for each application; Arrange, record, and staff Eligibility Pool board meetings. Notify applicants of the board’s decisions; maintain hard and electronic files; correspondence; photocopying; generate data and compile reports using MS Word, Excel and Access programs. Account all revenue from sales activities; bank deposits; complete revenue reports; conduct quality control reviews and updates to data; data entry; prepare and mail information. Some overtime and overnight travel is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
1. Experience with customer service to include public contact via telephone and in person 2. Demonstrated experience with data entry and quality control 3. Strong skills in written correspondence, using correct grammar, vocabulary and spelling 4. Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Access programs 5. Demonstrated experience in cash handling and bank deposits 6. Working knowledge of the commercial fishing industry
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills and abilities gained through at least two years of office assistant/secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
