The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is the nation's most effective environmental action organization. Position Summary :
NRDC is seeking a Program Assistant to work with the Water and Government Affairs Programs in our Washington DC office. This position supports staff involved in legal proceedings, technical issues, public policy, and administrative management.
Administrative support duties include processing invoices and expense reports; tracking budgets; assisting with drafting, production and distribution of legislative materials to congressional offices and the Administration; tracking the status of pending legislation; proofreading, formatting, copying, and scanning documents; maintaining and expanding image files; filing and management of court and administrative documents; assisting in hiring and training of interns; scheduling meetings and travel; and assisting other program assistants as needed.
Additional opportunities include blogging, tweeting, maintaining and upgrading web content, drafting and editing reports and presentations, attending hearings, committee mark-ups and meetings on key legislation and planning and assisting with office events.
Bachelor’s degree required
One year previous administrative experience (or equivalent) preferred
Must be able to perform, or quickly learn to perform, with accuracy tasks such as: proofreading and cite-checking documents; processing and tracking expenses; maintaining calendars and budgets; researching and writing memos; and planning retreats and meetings
Ability to prioritize and efficiently execute multiple tasks, follow institutional procedures, and perform undirected work with meticulous attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Superior editing, research and data synthesis skills
Commitment to accuracy and rigor
Ability to maintain composure and sense of humor under deadline pressure
Willingness and flexibility to work overtime
Ability to maintain confidentiality and work discretely with sensitive information
High proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
