Reporting to the Director of Northern Virginia Operations for the Virginia Tech Language and Culture Institute (VTLCI), the Program Coordinator manages the VTLCI office in the National Capital Region. The Program Coordinator ensures students' compliance with federal regulations regarding student immigration (referred to as SEVIS). This includes work with SEVP, DMV and other state and federal agencies. The Program Coordinator develops and provides information to students pertinent to regulatory compliance, and maintains immigration files of all students throughout matriculation at the Institute. This person plans and implements activities that enhance public awareness, knowledge and support of the VTLCI; responds to agent and student inquiries; prepares and disseminates initial I-20s and acceptance packets for transfer students; registers students; processes requests for program extensions, change of status, and reinstatement; monitors the student registration system (intranet) for accuracy; keeps student registration, attendance, and grade reporting systems up to date; reconciles class lists to invoices and collects payments; serves as primary coordinator of data and document collection for accreditation purposes, and coordinates administrative processes at the VTLCI in Falls Church. S/he provides training to and oversight of part-time administrative staff and emergency hires.
- Project or program management experience working in a complex, fast-paced environment - Previous supervisory experience - Experience developing and managing databases - Experience with word processing, spreadsheets, and current office software - Ability to work independently in a team environment - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to include cross-cultural communication to effectively work with international students, embassy personnel, VTLCI faculty, and VT support staff - Excellent organizational skills - Proactive in planning for hectic periods at the beginning and end of terms - Able to anticipate needs of the program, Associate Director, and VTLCI faculty and students
- Bachelor degree in a related field and/or equivalent level of training and/or experience. - Prior experience at a large, public, higher education institution - International student advising experience - Experience processing travel vouchers, reimbursements, and bank reconciliations - Knowledge and experience with the SEVIS system and most aspects of student immigration - Training as a Designated School Official (DSO) with knowledge of F-1 and F-2 student regulations
