The Program Director oversees, develops and implements all Brooklyn LifeLink college transition and retention efforts aimed at assisting student meet the challenges of college and proceed to timely graduation. The Program Director collaborates intensively with key stakeholders from Good Shepherd Services multiple pathways programs, local community colleges where specific linkages have been established, and other youth serving institutions partnering in this effort. Oversees expansion to additional colleges. The Program Director incorporates research and professional knowledge to identify and implement best practices in college transition and retention and joins in research to enhance the knowledge base.
• Develop and oversee comprehensive program to facilitate and maintain student retention in college including outreach, counseling, academic supports, life skills and concrete supports.
• Develop and maintain integrated and productive relationship with designated college administration, faculty, support services, and extra curricula staff. and navigate and oversee expansion to additional colleges.
• Develop and maintain integrated and productive working relationships with leadership of all GSS Brooklyn Multiple Pathways Programs and other referral sources.
• Provide leadership on best practices in all aspects of college transition and retention relevant to the role of a community based organization.
• Supervise Brooklyn LifeLink staff.
• Develop and oversee a range of college Bridge activities that include intensive preparation for CUNY Placement Tests and subsequent academic and transition challenges.
• Collaborate with Good Shepherd Services Bronx LifeLink to assure adherence to the mission, sharing of resources and information, cross pollination to best serve students, and identification and development of best practices.
• Participate in college based and partner meetings, research, events and activities.
• Participate in on-going internal program evaluation activities.
• Ensure that grants requirements are met and provide quantitative and qualitative data as needed.
• Ensure appropriate utilization of designated databases.
• Monitor program budget.
• Represent agency at relevant external meetings.
• Provides regular reports on the status of the program to the Division Director.
• Participate in agency wide college and career workgroups(s) and initiatives.
• Masters degree in a related field required and experience working with young adults.
• Passionate about assuring young peoples success in college.
• Experience working in, or closely with college(s) required.
• Familiar with the structure, resources and function of colleges.
• Proven organizational and team work skills required.
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Highly computer literate.
• Functions proficiently as a team member, as well as independently.
• Acquainted with current research, literature and trends concerning college transition and retention for non-traditional (young adult) students.
