This subject matter expert will be responsible for the ownership, execution and program management associated with creating, analyzing, changing and integrating steel specifications and processes across global steel wire and steel coil consuming divisions of ITW. This individual will also work closely with participating global Divisions and coil and wire suppliers to research and implement innovative opportunities that exist within the marketplace. The program manager will be an agent for change at the Corporate and Divisional level and will help drive concrete synergies and collaboration. The expectation is that this role will realize substantial quantifiable YOY cost reductions in NA and Europe.
Reviews technical specifications of various products at ITW plants and provided by suppliers, and makes recommendations for consolidation or revisions of specifications.
Assist/ advise plant and divisional purchasing groups with metal selection and substitutions for a variety of end products and processes.
Project manages gauge and grade consolidation to ensure execution of using sites of accepted recommendations.
Assesses various mills to provide insight into capability to consolidate buying opportunities.
Manage projects that involve both internal business units and external resources
Keeps on top of new materials and process advancements
Leads verification and validation testing of new materials and sources
Develops and implement techniques for improved process control, yields, costs, and through-put.
Coordinates outside metallurgical testing as required.
BS, MS or in Metallurgy
10+ years of experience as an industrial metallurgist with strong background in technical specification selection and sourcing of ferrous metals.
Experience with metal -working processes including wire drawing, cold heading, thread-rolling, stamping, and deep drawing.
Good understanding of ferrous and non-ferrous alloy chemistry, microstructure, corrosion resistance and mechanical properties.
Knowledgeable of heat treatment and other thermal processes.
Experience and understanding of steel specifications/codes and test methods.
