The Finisar Optical Components R&D team, headquartered in Fremont, CA is looking for a program manager with unique abilities.
This person will spearhead the development of our most advanced high-speed optical programs, designed out of California. They will manage the transition of products from mid/late stage NPI to Mass Production.
The program manager will act as the critical interface between the Optical Components R&D organization and the customer. They will also be the key point of contact for other Finisar organizations (Planning team, Off-shore manufacturing, Supply Chain and Sales/Marketing). This is an exciting position demanding a strong mix of communication, project management, planning and people skills, along with a strong technical background to match the needs of this very engineering focused organization. As the program manager you will:
Work closely with engineering, production and supply chain teams to cover customer demands during Alpha and Beta shipments and support smooth hand-off from US to off-shore manufacturing.
Realize that the customer (internal to Finisar) is your first priority and providing consistent, clear and up-to-date communications with the customer are critical to this role. This includes status and schedule for shipments, reliability and the ongoing engineering changes to the product.
Manage numerous design build iterations and BOM configurations both in parallel and serially.
Help to coordinate and communicate to other organizations the engineering needs to meet reliability, performance and yield metrics for transition to Mass Production.
Some limited travel to Asia for product transfer and resolution of customer issues expected (
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
6+ years total relevant experience in managing programs; and 4+ years in the high tech industry managing or leading technical programs.
BS (MS a plus) in a science or engineering discipline.
As the ambassador to the customer for the program: Superior verbal and written communications skills are required.
Experience in the optical or communications industry a plus.
Experience with Oracle, Agile and Microsoft Project strongly preferred. Should be an advanced user of Excel.
Must have experience and enjoy working in a fast pace environment. Must have demonstrated ability to perform in high-energy atmosphere in which multiple-tasks have to be accomplished quickly, efficiently and effectively. It is also important to do this in a well-documented and organized fashion.
This high visibility role requires a naturally outgoing and people-centric personality.
Must be able to document the ability to manage the cultural and communications issues with off-shore teams. Demonstrated ability to reach out to those organizations and leverage the talent and resources is highly desired.
Time management is critical. Demonstrated ability to consistently meet deadlines and work under time pressures.
Ability to think outside the box and then move back into the box with a multi-disciplinary and innovative approach to problem solving.
