The Department of State Police is seeking qualified applicants for a Program Support Technician position in the Criminal Justice Information Services Division, Central Criminal Records Exchange/Sex Offender Registry located at State Police Administrative Headquarters in Chesterfield County. This is a Non-Exempt position; therefore, this position is subject to the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
DUTIES: Reviews and analyzes convictions and missing dispositions of out-of-state computerized criminal history records for sex offenses in order to determine if the person meets the criteria to be entered into the Sex Offender Registry (SOR) pursuant to the Code of Virginia. Contacts law enforcement agencies throughout the country to obtain court orders, sentencing orders, offense reports, age of victim, etc. in order to make an accurate assessment of the requirements set forth in the Code. Processes investigative cases of offenders that have failed to register by conducting inquiries against the Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) / National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and other databases. Reviews inquiries to determine if offenders have failed to comply pursuant to the Code of Virginia and determine if subjects were incarcerated during re-registration period. Verifies the accuracy of the entry of the registrations and re-registrations to ensure that information is entered pursuant to the Code of Virginia. Scans photographs and/or archives sex offender registry documentation to the offender's file. Position may require working mandatory overtime.
QUALIFICATIONS: General knowledge of computer formatted functions, state codes and regulations. Demonstrated skill in effective keyboarding and/or typing to meet hourly production. Demonstrated ability to perform research and analyses on questionable data; to follow instructions; to pay close attention to detail; to work independently; and to communicate effectively. Must possess experience in research and analytical techniques. Must successfully pass pre-employment testing. High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position required. Must be VCIN certified, which requires either U.S. citizenship or having been a lawful resident of the U.S. for the past 10 consecutive years.
