CDC DEVELOPMENT SOLUTIONS (CDS), a Washington, DC based non-profit organization, is seeking a seasoned Project Director to develop and manage the implementation of an integrated community and agricultural development program in the Rajsamand District of Rajasthan, India. This multi-year project, funded by the John Deere Foundation, aims to improve the livelihoods of those residing in the target area by addressing various challenges relating to the project's three main focus areas: (1) agriculture and income security, (2) education, and (3) infrastructure.

The Project Director will provide strategic leadership and will be the primary technical expert assigned to the project, responsible for the structure and quality of all project deliverables.


Rajsamand, Rajasthan, India

Responsibilities and Tasks

Provide overall supervision of the project and serve as technical lead

Manage, facilitate and liaise with local partnering organizations as required

Lead all planning, project design and reporting activities in the field in consultation with in-country stakeholders and CDS headquarters staff

Manage the implementation of a baseline data survey and market study to establish project impact tracking indicators and later technical focus areas

Oversee agricultural capacity building of agriculture expert(s) and local farmers

Supervise a local afterschool training program and lead program staff

Ensure strict and timely submission of financial and budgeting reports

Provide regular and detailed reports to CDS, with more in-depth program reports submitted on a quarterly basis

Develop achievable and detailed scopes of work for staff, consultants, volunteers, etc.

Ensure and promote local staff development and progressive management responsibilities in all aspects of program implementation with the overall goal of eventually transferring the project over to local staff for long-term sustainability

Perform logistical duties to ensure smooth in-country operations

Travel, as required by the project

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

A minimum of 10 years experience managing development, community-based, agricultural, and/or nongovernmental organization projects in developing areas

Technical expertise in community and rural development programming, agribusiness strategy, and/or trade and value chain analysis

Knowledge of small-scale agriculture in the Rajasthan/Northern India region

Familiarity with agricultural and livestock production, market-linkage, and agricultural infrastructure constraints

Demonstrated supervisory/management ability of local and expatriate staff

Master's degree or equivalent in international/community development, agriculture, agribusiness or related field of study

Indian national (preferred)

Excellent proficiency in Hindi and English (required)

Proficiency in Mewari, Rajasthani-Marwari (preferred)
