The Project Engineer will work as part of an engineering team located in Watertown, Fulton & Potsdam, NY. The technical group has engineering responsibilities for Brookfield Renewable Power’s New York West Operations. This operation includes 48 hydroelectric power plants and their associated structures and 1 thermal plant.

Reporting to the Asset Manager of New York West and working under their immediate supervision, the incumbent’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Capital and Major Maintenance project management, including project scoping, budget development, and creation of technical specifications and contract documents
  • Managing the activities of consultants and equipment suppliers
  • Working with the Compliance Group to secure all necessary permits for construction activities
  • Coordinating project activities with the Operations Group (including Superintendents and Field Workers)
  • Ensuring that all work is performed within Brookfield’s Safe Work Management System requirements
  • Ensuring that all work supports Brookfield’s commitment to environmental excellence
Required Skills
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) preferred but not required
  • Demonstrated safe work habits and familiarity with OSHA standards
  • Knowledge of related industry standards, including NFPA (National Fire Protection Agency), and knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations
  • A practical, adaptable, innovative, collaborative, and solution-focused approach to issues
  • A solid understanding of project management processes
  • Strong ability to be self-directed regarding learning and discovery
  • Ability to organize, plan, prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Strong ability to organize a project team, set expectations, and manage results
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and planning/scheduling abilities
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • Up to 10% overnight travel, 50% during the workday travel, primarily throughout western, central and northern New York State
  • Physical ability to travel over rough/natural terrain to monitor assets and projects is required
Required Experience
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of extensive related experience
  • Experience/exposure in the hydropower or power generation field preferred
