Description of Duties:
â¢ Design high quality, reliable medical products such as reusable instruments, low cost electrosurgical disposables and electrosurgical generators.
â¢ This includes all phases of design, development, tooling, component procurement, assembly, test, validation, and manufacturing support.
â¢ Conceptual design, detailed design, CAD modeling, prototyping, and troubleshooting.
â¢ Design analyses including theoretical calculations for component fit and tolerance analysis and stress calculations.
â¢ Development of written protocols, reports and presentations related to design activities.
â¢ Performing and/or supervising the testing of new and existing products and test reporting.
â¢ Additional responsibilities may include cost reduction redesign of products and solving design and manufacturing problems on existing product lines.
â¢ Verification and validation testing
â¢ Delivery of work products to an agreed upon schedule
â¢ B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
â¢ 3-5 years experience in product design is required.
â¢ Experience designing with engineered materials is required.
â¢ Experience in medical products design is required.
â¢ Experience designing components for various manufacturing techniques including: machining, injection molding, extrusion, electrical interconnection methods and sheet metal enclosures is required.
â¢ Experience in design and development of surgical and/or electrosurgical instruments is beneficial.
â¢ Experience in design of single use disposable products is beneficial.
â¢ Experience with formal design and development methodologies, including configuration management and engineering change control is required.
â¢ Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) is required.
â¢ Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Visio, and PowerPoint.
â¢ Proficiency in 3-D CAD software such as Pro Engineer or equivalent is required, expertise is desired.
â¢ Finite element analysis experience is beneficial.
â¢ Statistics package such as MiniTab is beneficial.
â¢ Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
â¢ Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
â¢ Ability to provide high quality engineering documentation such as verbal and written reports, and engineering drawings per ASME Y14.5M-2009 is required.
â¢ Ability to execute several projects at once with some supervision.
â¢ Analytical and problem solving skills such as finite element, statistics and experimental designs.
â¢ Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources into robust solutions.
â¢ Demonstrated ability to be creative in the art of mechanical design.
â¢ Experienced at applying the basic laws of physics and possesses a good mechanical aptitude.
â¢ Good understanding of design and development processes from concept to production.
â¢ Experienced at performing tolerance stack analyses.
