The Property Accountant is responsible for the monthly financials to the Operations Department with excellent administrative support by completing tasks as requested in a timely and professional manner.

  • Timely and accurately maintain the accounting books and records for assigned properties including preparation and review of journal entries, review of general ledgers, generation of financials, preparation of support schedules, and review and distribution of owners reports.
  • Manage the liquid assets for properties through the preparation of cash flow reports, distribution of funds, timely debit payments, and initiation of capital calls.
  • Generate third party accounting reports as required by owners/ asset managers.
  • Assist in supervising accounts payable associates as they process payables on a weekly basis to ensure timelines and compliance with established corporate policies.
  • Ability to understand accounting related policies and procedures established by company
  • Review 1099 reports
  • Analyze, evaluate, and generate special reports as required by management and owners.
  • Provide schedules for information for external audits.
  • Responsible for timely review and approval of all payable for assigned properties.
  • Manage the properties finances for which responsible in the most efficient and productive manner
  • Effectively communicate with the owners/ asset managers the financial condition of their assets through review of monthly owner’s reports.
  • Assist on-site associates in compiling and analyzing all relevant financial information to help the properties achieve the goals and objectives of the company and property owner’s
  • Effectively complete the timely reconciliation of all assigned bank statements
  • Accurately and timely identify reconciling items for all assigned bank statements and research and resolve all outstanding checks dated over nine months through accurate creation and entry of journal entries.
  • Effectively review all on-site closing reports received from assigned properties, completing the month end checklist, and timely follow-up of any open, incomplete or questionable returns.
  • Accurately and timely copy, collate, assemble, and distribute all owner’s report packages to appropriate parties.
  • Accurately organize and file all accounting closing reports.
  • Thoroughly understand the computer functions and assist new associates through training and support as required by management.
  • Effectively communicate with accounting staff, support staff and on-site associates to ensure all required job functions are completed in a professional and personable manner.

An accounting or related degree is required. Position requires the ability to read and write English fluently.

Professional Experience
A minimum of two years experience in the accounting field with sound understanding of generally accepted accounting principals with a background in real estate or property management preferred.

Attendance/Travel Requirements
The position requires the ability to work five days of the week, 52 weeks a year, but flexible to work beyond 40 scheduled hours per week to meet deadlines required by management. Minimal or no travel is required.


Position requires the ability to use general office equipment including computer, printers, copy machines, fax machines, postage machine, etc.

  • The ability to manage and work well with associates while effectively completing tasks in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate ability to adapt to use of various accounting software
  • Sound understanding of generally accepted accounting practices
  • Strong accounting skills with knowledge of all facts of financial reporting including general ledger, balance sheet, income statements, and cash flow sheets
  • Ability to understand accounting related policies and procedures established by company
  • Strong written and verbal communications
  • Strong organizational and time management skills(ability to prioritize effectively)
  • Willingness to work in a team based environment
  • Professional demeanor and image required
  • Support communities and other departments as needed
  • Special projects and other tasks or duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Maintain an excellent customer service relationship by adhering to the Gables Pledges of Customer Service
  • Adhere to the Gables Standard Operating Procedures
Computer skills
  • Excellent MS Outlook, Word, Excel
  • Successful completion of in house training in JDE and various banking programs.
  • Strong Internet knowledge
