Performs a wide variety of work in the operation and maintenance of recreation areas, dam reservations, all TVA building facilities and in resource improvement activities involving roads, grounds, buildings, public use areas, campgrounds, wildlife development and agricultural and forest lands; in addition, drives a variety of trucks, operates farm-type tractors with related attachments, and light industrial tractors with attachments. More specifically, the duties may include a mixture of the following:

Performs general work required in the repair and maintenance of natural, chert, gravel, and/or bituminous surfaced roads using road repair equipment, trails and drives, and parking areas; cleans ditches, digs out underground pipes and cables; builds check dams for erosion control; spreads sand and gravel on beaches; repairs tent pads and trailer sites; sets up and takes down farm-type irrigation system and pressure pump, hose, and sprinkler system for lawn watering and operates other portable pumps; trims and fells trees; and cuts and stacks firewood.

Cleans up and maintains water and sewer systems, grounds and facilities; removes trash and garbage, sweeps, cleans and maintains visitor buildings, toilet buildings, shower buildings, change houses, education centers, and maintenance shops; washes windows, mops floors, scrubs walls, and cleans and repairs restroom fixtures and water and sewer systems; and checks and refills chlorination equipment on water supply and sewage disposal systems.

Replaces filters and light bulbs.

Mows lawn and grass areas with power or hand mowers; cultivates and maintains landscaped planting areas, and prepares and plants new areas; assists in the production of wildlife food crops such as clearing and preparing land, seeding, cultivating and harvesting; applies fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides; puts up nesting boxes and protective devices; posts or erects signs; feeds and cares for animals at educational farm, and elsewhere in the project area, including wildlife in pens, fenced areas and otherwise when required because of short food supply or severe weather conditions; plants trees, cuts and removes undesirable undergrowth and weed trees; and performs other similar tasks in forestry improvement programs; and applies larvicides, cleans drainage ditches, and clears growth for vector control.

Other duties include:

Drives trucks providing crews transportation, hauling of equipment, materials, supplies, trash and garbage, tows a variety of light capacity trailers, including small-fuel trailers, Haulette-type trailers with one or two axles in hauling equipment such as sanitation units, backhoe, dozers, front-end loader and other equipment, materials, and supplies not to exceed the rated capacity of the trailers

Operates farm-type tractors and associated farm-type implements and light industrial attachments normally used in maintaining lawns and landscaped areas, roads, and walks, and agricultural uses of land

Operates small industrial-type tractors in maintenance of trails, campground, and informal use area work, fire road, small levees and terraces, and for fire suppression work

Operates various power chainsaws, outboard motor boats, and other portable power tools

Operates wood chipping machine, hydro seeder, mulch blower, and other miscellaneous power equipment

Sets up conference rooms and AV equipment; and (7) participates in and provides on-the-job training as required.

Incumbent is obligated to observe safety regulations and to advise supervisor of any unsafe conditions.

Must be able to maintain good relationships with fellow workers and use courtesy dealing with visitors and users of the public facilities.


Must have a basic knowledge of the cleaning of buildings and upkeep of grounds, maintenance equipment, plantings and growing plants; the ability to carry out instructions and to perform regular assignments without continuous direct supervision; and the ability to maintain records of hours worked and progress made. Must hold a valid license for operation of vehicles of type assigned to incumbent's work location; must be a safe, careful, courteous, and efficient driver.

Must be a safe, careful, and efficient operator of the equipment and associated farm implements and attachments used at the work location.

Experience and demonstrated ability to handle the variety of work and associated skills as described for the position.

Reading: Must have the skill to read road and equipment warnings, directions, safety manuals, instructions for chemicals, first aid manuals, and maps.

Math: Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. Must be able to count, add, subtract, multiply, and divide inches and feet, mix chemicals according to directions (tablespoons, cups, etc.), and measure dimensions using a ruler.

Writing: Must be able to write/print in order to fill out logs, accident reports, procurement and receiving documents.

The Property Maintenance Foreman assigns and schedules work. On occasion, employee's work may be directed by others as assigned.
