Product and Mission Management
The Product and Mission Management Office at SpaceX leads, at a programmatic level, the successful execution of the terms and conditions of contracts with our global customer base. The office includes roles in product management, business development and sales support, proposal development, mission management, mission engineering, contract management, scheduling, and regulatory coordination.
This entry-level position within the proposal team combines significant elements of engineering knowledge and project management skills. The selected individual will support the proposal development process for strategic federal and commercial opportunities (requests for proposals, requests for information, Broad Agency Announcements, and so forth). The Proposal Team Engineer is a critical interface among the Engineering, Sales and Proposal teams, and the position requires coordinating, combining and reconciling (as needed) the efforts of subject matter experts with those of the proposal team, capture manager and executive team.
The ideal candidate will seek to apply engineering tools and skills to business activities and will thrive on facilitating and enhancing communication among the SpaceX Engineering, Sales, Mission Management and Proposal teams. The position requires initiative, strong leadership ability, attention to detail, exceptional project management techniques and writing skills, and the ability to interact with engineers in various technical disciplines.
As an integral part of the proposal development process, the Proposal Engineer has the unique opportunity to understand the dynamic intersection of engineering, mission requirements, SpaceX products and the launch services marketplace. The position offers unparalleled opportunities to participate in or lead special projects and support P&MM beyond the proposal process, enabling growth through more complex and increasingly technical assignments.
Lead a team consisting of Sales, technical, and management personnel through proposal development
Help assess customer solicitations and technical requirements against capabilities of SpaceX products
Identify previously proposed or customer-unique solutions with Engineering, Sales and Mission Management personnel
Prepare a schedule for proposal development
Develop and issue requests for proposal information to the technical team and convert responses into effective proposal narratives
Provide proposal documents across the organization for review and approval and then incorporate reviewers’ comments, leading technical discussion as needed to resolve concerns
Follow up with proposal team members to ensure that resources are adequate and team members can meet proposal milestones
Arrange printing, shipping and delivery of the proposal in the required format with correct markings
Collect lessons learned from the team and document them to improve proposal development in the future
Assist Product & Mission Management in proposal responsibilities
Involve and keep engaged the technical team, Legal, and Contracts in proposal development
Help prepare and complete matrices tracking SpaceX compliance with customer requirements
Execute special projects
Create and improve internal documents, tools and procedures
Maintain up-to-date proposal write-ups
Bachelor’s degree in engineering field
One course or practical experience in technical writing
Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
Familiarity with Microsoft Project and Adobe software desired
